With a total production volume of 137 Mm³/year and a distribution area covering 2.6 million inhabitants, VMW (Flemish Water Supply Company) is the largest drinking water company in the Flemish region of Belgium. The importance of surface water as a resource in the production of drinking water is growing. Today, VMW operates 5 surface water treatment plants with a total capacity of 130.000 m³/day. VMW has its own research and engineering department, focusing in all the aspects of drinking water production and distribution from source to tap. The main contribution of VMW to the CeraWater project will be the technical and economical evaluation of the developed honeycombs for the production of drinking water. Pilot experiments will be conducted at one of VMW’s surface water treatment plants.
